To have them by my sideAlways looking out for meInspiring me to be the best I can beAlways believing in meThat's on my wall- it's to remind me of the extraordinary love and support I receive from my family and to keep me grounded.Being here away from home hasn't been as tough as back then in Australia when I was young and had been so sheltered all my life- I was learning how to be independent. Now, with Skype and a thicker skin and a stronger soul- I am faring well here. But seriously lately, there's been a tonne of things on my mind.
Electives. Booking for flights and accomodations. Sorting out all my residency application material.Trying to juggle working everyday from 7am to 5.30pm whilst trying to squeeze in some study time at night, in the midst of a call every few days too.Researching on all the prospective attractive hospitals and their residency curriculum.Making phone calls getting some things done. Running around...Not forgetting, my 2 USMLE Step 2 exams the week after my finals here in Dalh which is in less than 2 months' time. It's a lot to juggle. But it's not going to overwhelm me.Ok Sue Sue time to show myself what I'm made of.*muacks* :)

So cute. My landlord who is like my second father here in Canada is absolutely wonderful.Anyway, we were all at the dining table celebrating Vic's birthday when he brought up jokes with Andrea. What's white and black and red?A ZEBRA with a sunburn =) -so cute, isn't it? A BAD sunburn I added ;)-What did the bee say to the flower?Hi HONEY =)Had a feast- 2 cakes- one chocolate divine cake AND another carrot cream cake laden with peanuts- and then earlier, Daniel bought Chinese take-out. I am extremely satisfied and FULL right now.I feel F.A.T. So much for my plan of 'healthy eating'.I have a few more food outings planned with my old residents. And ice cream outings too.Anyway, I phoned home for a few electives and when they asked where are you calling from?I said ' from CANADA'They immediately paged the doctor who is the Associate Professor to speak to me on the phone, this was last night when I was on call at 3 in the morning! He was such a sweetheart. Yay- I'm coming home next year in Feb/March/April - will get to celebrate Chinese New Year and see you guys soon =)

My resident from Kuwait, this vain-pot hunky doctor with fantastic porcelain white skin and smells of cologne a mile away, laughed at me and shared his trigger with my team. "Ask Sue how she pronounced parotitis," so I replied: 'Pa- ro -TI-Tis' - from all my Malay bahasa training-aa-ee..He snickered once more. My team members defended me, telling him not to make fun of international people's 'accents' and took a swipe at his pronounciation of 'inflammatory' ;).. Apparently, parotitis is pronounced as 'Pa-ro-Ty-tis'. Now I know. Last time I made a similar mistake, which invited hidden laughter in MTU. Urina-LY-sis is pronounced as 'Urina Li-sis'Bumped into my old Philippino resident Dr Elinor, who was on call with me one night months ago, in the Peds emerge room. She showed me the kuai lo's (also a med student) picture whom she wanted to introduce me to... 'He's so nice!''...And very intelligent..like you'..'And he's so nice. And he knits too-like his grandma'Who said I am attracted to the types who knit? Not that I have anything against them- but why of all things, knitting?
