and when she speaks

Tuesday, April 07, 2009

We bought a new car; the Suzuki Swift.

Haslina; my heavily-pregnant colleague who never fails to shake her big belly in front of me daily whilst yelling 'Baby, say hi to Auntie Sueyi' -.-' corrected me when I called it a TOYOTA swift ;) tactfully, she said 'Sueyi, a Swift belongs to Suzuki'. I stand corrected :p

The Canadian Max told me to stay off the roads for the public's safety :p

Met up with dear ol' Janet; who was back in KL for her USMLE exam. She treated me to dinner at Thai Thai for being 'a helpful senior' :) The next treat in Chicago; she says will be on me ;)

Had a great time with Sabrina in Midvalley. We indulged in Tiramisu & Almond Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla ice-cream in Zen. Off we hopped to the Gardens- my very first time there; *jakun me* =)

Bumped into a small gang of IMU juniors; Jeremy, Noris ... One of them scrutinized my face; and after a few minutes; exclaimed 'Oh, you were the President of CrusAIDsers'. Time really flies... they couldn't believe I was going to start work in Chicago.

Took the 3 monsters (sisters) out to shop for them. We were so noisy and boisterous everywhere we went ;) From 1- 7pm; we shopped til we literally dropped. *the poor Jie-Jie was exhausted but extremely proud of her achievement of getting what everyone needed* hehehe ;) I can honestly tell you it's NOT AN EASY FEAT shopping for all 3 of my them. Each with their own complaints; it's a major headache-inducer... "big broad shoulders lah; too big an ass; too skinny & stick-like; too dark" Anyway, daddy was the biggest sport I'd have to say; letting us shop freely with his funds =) *hehehe* Later on, mummy and daddy joined us all for dinner @ Dragon I =) I am so sick of Dragon I. I have been there twice this week -.-'

Brian & David & New York Max have been so nice to help me out with my Chicago stuff... I couldn't be more gratefulc :)

It's about 1.5 months more before I fly off. I'm going to make the most of this and spend time with my dearest sisters and family; and be the biggest; most pampered kid at my warm loving sheltered walls of home =) *hehehe*

Last week was wonderful :)

  • Had a blast with my team in Kasih Hospice. Dr Vanitha has been the absolute cheeky, fun-loving, easygoing doctor who once in awhile bullies me ;P or so the team says *laughs* She has been sabotaging me by getting me to finish the treats we get when we visit our patient's homes!! It's not nice if we don't drink the drinks our patients serve to us especially when they go 'Drink Doctor. Drink yea' & flash that big smile expecting you to accept their gracious offer ;) LoL... and so I - drink up ;) She once shoved her chocolate into my hand ( we each were given one) !

  • Nurse Ong remarked to bring over my future boyfriend for them to interrogate! ;)

  • Dr Vanitha said to me 'So cute! You still have puppy fat on your cheeks' and did that finger pinching action -.-' I replied 'Yes, I lost it all when I was busy working and studying in Canada, and since coming home, it's all come back!' :(' but Nurse Cheah said that it's good for slowing the aging process *laughs* ;)

  • I'll miss the daily vegetarian lunches with the team :) and our cendol.durian. sweet potato. pakchu. goreng pisang- hunting sessions ;)

  • I'll miss sleeping in the backseat whilst we drive to all the way to Rawang, Puchong, Aman Putri, Selayang...

  • Dr Vanitha said to me 'I'm sure you feel so lucky; now that you've seen the conditions our patients live in'. I replied earnestly; 'I realised long ago how lucky I am' Though that was true; despite knowing how luxurious a life I live compared to my patients; I just didn't realise the kinds of houses these poor people lived in. You wouldn't even consider some of them appropriate to live in. One of my patients has a 17 year old son staying back in their old house far away simply because there wasn't enough room in their small apartment for the parents and 3 kids. The living room is a makeshift for a kitchen, bedroom and living room and it was as big as my toilet at home. Their lunches consisted of the biscuits you get for RM10 for a tin and that can last them months on end. Some were so cramped we could barely cross our legs without hitting things in the way. I have to admit I had never before in my life stepped foot in those kinds of housing areas... and I am truly humbled. Now, I need to get my sisters to visit those places to appreciate what they've got.
  • Love and sibling-hood. After watching this family of 8 siblings of which 4 of them were struck with a genetic disease-( fascioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy where the disease progresses til their upper trunk muscles become fully paralysed) ; I was blown away by how united the siblings are; how they took care of one another and looked out for each other; how the other 'normal unaffected-yet' siblings took over the financial burden... This is the true essence and depth of family love. The sacrifices each undertake to ensure they can all live comfortably; and the united front in making sure they all stay strong and relish in the baby pleasures of life. No negativism in the house. No sad faces. No feelings of injustice for having to work extra hard for the remaining siblings. No grief. No sorrow. Just hope and joy in what they have in their lives. And love. And family. That is amazing. If they can do this; what more the small things which we are required to do for our own siblings. Theirs is a life-long commitment; and they put us to shame if we cannot even perform menial tasks for our siblings... Watching their concern and affection for each other, I was humbled, amazed and truly touched.
  • My Kasih Hospice experience- truly once-in-a-lifetime humbling & humanizing experience.
